Scrap metal collection and buying in Skelmersdale
Skelmersdale’s factories cluster around junctions 4 and 5 of the M58. We buy scrap from the manufacturers, engineers and contractors on those estates, and collect it from site.

Skelmersdale had fourteen collieries in 1880, and metal was part of the new town from the start: designated in 1961, it gained the Parsons Chain factory at Gladden Place in 1965, one of the first to arrive. Today the estates around the M58 hold food manufacturers, engineering firms and some very large warehouses, and most produce metal they no longer need.
Resilient Contracting buys that scrap and collects it, from a single bin of stainless offcuts to a roll-on roll-off container of steel. Our Martland Park site is a short drive along the M58 from the Skelmersdale estates. We grade every metal separately, confirm the seller’s name and address as the law requires, and pay by bank transfer.

Gladden Place to Pimbo: the factories by the M58
Junction 4 serves the Gillibrands side of town: Gladden Place in West Gillibrands, Greenhey Place in East Gillibrands and Gardiners Place, plus G-Park Skelmersdale on the A5068 and the Stanley estates, where the new Beacon Point warehouse is being built. Food production is a big part of the mix, and food plants run on stainless: hoppers, conveyors, tanks and pipework that end up as high-grade scrap when a line is replaced.
Junction 5 serves Pimbo, where Penrose Place, Pikelaw Place and Potter Place hold manufacturing, materials handling and distribution businesses. Further out, Burscough Industrial Estate and the units off Tollgate Road add workshops and manufacturers, and Simonswood Industrial Park sits on the edge of Kirkby. Swarf from machine shops, steel from racking changes and copper from electrical work all turn up here.

How it works
From a phone call to money in the bank
Say what the metal is and give us a rough weight or a skip size. A photo or two speeds it up. You will know how it will be priced before anything moves.
Call or send photos
What the metal is, how it is mixed, roughly how much and where it is. A few photos usually tell us most of it.
Collection arranged
A one-off pick-up, or cages, bins or a skip on site so it can be kept apart as it comes out.
Weighed and graded
Each metal is weighed and graded for what it is, so clean copper is not paid as mixed scrap.
Paid by bank transfer
Payment against the weights and grades, with a waste transfer note for the load.
We run a food factory in Skelmersdale and are replacing a production line. Can you take the old stainless?
Yes, once it has been cleaned down and isolated. Food-grade equipment is usually 304 or 316 stainless, and the two are worth keeping apart because 316 carries molybdenum and more nickel. Motors, gearboxes and control panels should come off and go separately, and plastic belts and seals are best stripped where you can. Tell us the size of the line and the access, and we’ll plan containers around the engineers’ programme.
Our warehouse on Pimbo changes its racking layout every year or two. Is the old racking worth anything?
Yes. Pallet racking uprights and beams are steel scrap, and a big layout change produces a lot of it. Racking that is too damaged to reuse can go in a roll-on roll-off container or as loose loads, depending on how it’s taken down. Keep timber decking, plastic and pallets out of it, and tell us roughly how many bays are coming down.
How do I get today’s price for my scrap?
Call 01942 906041 or send us a few photos through the quote form with a rough weight or volume. Scrap prices follow the metals markets and change from day to day, so we price on what you actually have at the time, by grade, rather than quoting a figure that could be out of date tomorrow.
How will we be paid? Can you pay cash?
By bank transfer. Paying cash for scrap metal has been illegal in England and Wales since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, so any dealer still offering cash is breaking the law. You get a record of what was weighed, the grade and the price, so the payment is easy to reconcile in your accounts.
Do you collect from site?
Yes. We arrange collections from business and trade sites, and can leave cages, bins, bulk bags or a roll-on roll-off skip on site so metals are kept apart as they come out. Tell us what you produce and how much, and we will suggest the right set-up and collection frequency.
