Scrap metal collection and buying in Liverpool

Liverpool and its neighbours have made cable and cars for generations, and steel still comes in through the port. We buy scrap metal from businesses across the city region and collect it from site.

The city region has deep roots in metal. The British Insulated Wire Company, founded in Prescot at the start of the 1890s, grew into BICC, whose main cable works there closed in the early 1990s. Cables Retail Park now covers the site. In Bootle, Atlantic Park has been built on the former Rolls-Royce engineering works, and Halewood is set to make body panels for Jaguar’s new electric car.

Resilient Contracting buys scrap from the contractors, engineers, fabricators and facilities teams behind that industry. We collect from site, set up cages and skips so each metal stays apart, grade every load and pay by bank transfer, never cash. We’re licensed for our site at Martland Park in Wigan, close to where the M58 from Liverpool meets the M6.

From Bootle’s freeport to Halewood’s car plant

North of the city, Atlantic Park sits inside the Liverpool City Region Freeport, close to the M57 and M58, with Senate Business Park and the Farriers Way estate in Netherton nearby. In north and east Liverpool, the Liver Industrial Estate on Long Lane, Boaler Street and Larch Lea, and Wheathills in Netherley hold trade, engineering and building services firms with a steady flow of copper, cable and steel offcuts.

To the south, Brunswick Business Park sits on the waterfront by Sefton Street, and the Port of Garston handles cargoes from aggregates to steel coil. Over the boundary in Knowsley, Huyton Business Park sits where the M62 meets the M57, and Boulevard Industry Park in Halewood houses automotive and pharmaceutical firms next to the car plant. Car work means pressings, aluminium and swarf, while pharmaceutical plants run on stainless.

How it works

From a phone call to money in the bank

Say what the metal is and give us a rough weight or a skip size. A photo or two speeds it up. You will know how it will be priced before anything moves.

  1. Call or send photos

What the metal is, how it is mixed, roughly how much and where it is. A few photos usually tell us most of it.

  2. Collection arranged

A one-off pick-up, or cages, bins or a skip on site so it can be kept apart as it comes out.

  3. Weighed and graded

Each metal is weighed and graded for what it is, so clean copper is not paid as mixed scrap.

  4. Paid by bank transfer

Payment against the weights and grades, with a waste transfer note for the load.

How selling your scrap works

FAQs

Selling scrap in Liverpool: questions

All questions

We supply pressed parts from a unit near Halewood. Do you buy production scrap?

Yes. Clean production scrap, such as pressing offcuts, skeletons and spoiled blanks, is some of the easiest metal to grade, because it’s a single material in a known alloy. Keep steel and aluminium apart, and if you press more than one aluminium alloy, keep those apart too. Steady output suits a roll-on roll-off container or stillages swapped on a regular pattern.

We’re based in Liverpool. Why use a scrap metal dealer from Wigan?

Choose a dealer on more than distance. What matters is that the dealer holds a council licence, is registered with the Environment Agency, pays by bank transfer and grades your metal properly. We collect from your site, so where our base is matters less than how your metal is handled, and our licence and registration are both on public registers you can check.

How do I get today’s price for my scrap?

Call 01942 906041 or send us a few photos through the quote form with a rough weight or volume. Scrap prices follow the metals markets and change from day to day, so we price on what you actually have at the time, by grade, rather than quoting a figure that could be out of date tomorrow.

How will we be paid? Can you pay cash?

By bank transfer. Paying cash for scrap metal has been illegal in England and Wales since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, so any dealer still offering cash is breaking the law. You get a record of what was weighed, the grade and the price, so the payment is easy to reconcile in your accounts.

Do you collect from site?

Yes. We arrange collections from business and trade sites, and can leave cages, bins, bulk bags or a roll-on roll-off skip on site so metals are kept apart as they come out. Tell us what you produce and how much, and we will suggest the right set-up and collection frequency.

What have you got? (tick any)
For example: about two tonnes of armoured cable drum ends, ready now. Or: a strip-out starting next month with stainless ducting and steelwork, skips needed on site.
A couple of photos of the scrap, close enough to see what it is, help us price it.
