Scrap metal collection and buying in Chorley

Chorley’s firms sit along the M61, from Botany Hill and Moorland Gate by junction 8 to the units at Buckshaw and Euxton. We buy the scrap metal they produce and collect it from site.

Chorley’s past is tied up with metal. From December 1938 the Royal Ordnance Factory at Euxton filled artillery shells on a site of more than 900 acres, and most of that land is now Buckshaw Village. Today the borough’s engineering is spread across smaller, newer estates, many of them close to junction 8 of the M61, where fabricators, rail and electrical contractors and plant firms all produce metal worth selling.

Resilient Contracting is a licensed scrap metal dealer based at Martland Park in Wigan. We buy from Chorley firms and collect from site, with a cage for copper, brass and cable and a skip for steel where that suits. Each load is graded before it is priced, and the money reaches you by bank transfer, since paying cash for scrap is illegal.

Botany Hill, Moorland Gate and the mill estates

Junction 8 is the busy end of town. New industrial units have been going up at Botany Hill, Moorland Gate Business Park has 18 units on about 11 acres beside the motorway, and Chorley Central Business Park off Stump Lane has 25 more. New units mean fit-outs, and fit-outs leave drum ends, cable tray, copper pipe and steel offcuts that should be collected and paid for rather than skipped.

At Buckshaw, the Buckshaw Link units have housed fabrication and rail engineering firms, and Strawberry Meadows Business Park sits on Euxton Lane. South of town, the Coppull Enterprise Centre fills the old Coppull Mill, and Abbey Mill in Abbey Village has more than 100 managed units. Each small unit makes modest amounts of scrap, but a cage kept for copper and brass soon makes a load.

How it works

From a phone call to money in the bank

Say what the metal is and give us a rough weight or a skip size. A photo or two speeds it up. You will know how it will be priced before anything moves.

  1. Call or send photos

What the metal is, how it is mixed, roughly how much and where it is. A few photos usually tell us most of it.

  2. Collection arranged

A one-off pick-up, or cages, bins or a skip on site so it can be kept apart as it comes out.

  3. Weighed and graded

Each metal is weighed and graded for what it is, so clean copper is not paid as mixed scrap.

  4. Paid by bank transfer

Payment against the weights and grades, with a waste transfer note for the load.

FAQs

Selling scrap in Chorley: questions

All questions

We’re fitting out a new unit near junction 8. What should happen to the metal from the build?

Keep it out of the general skip. Drum ends and cable offcuts, copper pipe and brass fittings, steel and aluminium from racking and mezzanines, and stainless from any process kit all have a scrap value. A cage or two for the higher-value metals during the fit-out, then a collection when the trades leave, usually does it. We pay by bank transfer and give you a record of every purchase.

Can you collect from a small unit in Coppull or Abbey Village?

Yes. Small units rarely need a skip. A lockable cage or a few bulk bags for copper, brass and cable, with a collection once there is enough to make a load, usually suits. Converted mill buildings can have tight access, so tell us about the yard, the doors and any stairs when you get in touch, and send photos if you can.

How do I get today’s price for my scrap?

Call 01942 906041 or send us a few photos through the quote form with a rough weight or volume. Scrap prices follow the metals markets and change from day to day, so we price on what you actually have at the time, by grade, rather than quoting a figure that could be out of date tomorrow.

How will we be paid? Can you pay cash?

By bank transfer. Paying cash for scrap metal has been illegal in England and Wales since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, so any dealer still offering cash is breaking the law. You get a record of what was weighed, the grade and the price, so the payment is easy to reconcile in your accounts.

Do you collect from site?

Yes. We arrange collections from business and trade sites, and can leave cages, bins, bulk bags or a roll-on roll-off skip on site so metals are kept apart as they come out. Tell us what you produce and how much, and we will suggest the right set-up and collection frequency.

What have you got? (tick any)
For example: about two tonnes of armoured cable drum ends, ready now. Or: a strip-out starting next month with stainless ducting and steelwork, skips needed on site.
A couple of photos of the scrap, close enough to see what it is, help us price it.
