Salford has worked metal for a long time. James Nasmyth opened the Bridgewater Foundry at Patricroft in 1836, and his original steam hammer still stands at the entrance to what is now Nasmyth Business Park. Steel was made at Irlam from 1910 until the end of the 1970s. Heavy steelmaking has gone, but the fabricators, machine shops, electrical contractors and plant firms serving the city are still here.
Resilient Contracting buys their scrap and collects it from site. Swarf goes in lidded bins, copper and cable in lockable cages and steel in a skip, and every load is graded before payment goes to your bank. Prices follow the metals markets, so send photos or call and we’ll price what you actually have.

Wardley, Little Hulton and the works by the canal
Along the A580, Wardley Industrial Estate in Worsley and the Link 580 units at its entrance hold warehouse, trade and industrial businesses. Further north, Little Hulton’s Towngate Business Centre and the newer Raven Locks sheds sit close to the M61. Units like these produce steady small volumes: copper pipe and fittings from plumbers and heating engineers, cable offcuts from electricians, aluminium and steel offcuts from fabricators.
West of the city, Barton Business Park and Mandale Park on Cawdor Street in Eccles back onto the Bridgewater Canal, and Nasmyth Business Park occupies the old foundry and Royal Ordnance Factory site at Patricroft. At Irlam, the Fairhills Industrial Estate adds construction and distribution firms. When a unit changes hands, the outgoing tenant’s racking, mezzanine steel and old machinery usually have a scrap value.

How it works
From a phone call to money in the bank
Say what the metal is and give us a rough weight or a skip size. A photo or two speeds it up. You will know how it will be priced before anything moves.
Call or send photos
What the metal is, how it is mixed, roughly how much and where it is. A few photos usually tell us most of it.
Collection arranged
A one-off pick-up, or cages, bins or a skip on site so it can be kept apart as it comes out.
Weighed and graded
Each metal is weighed and graded for what it is, so clean copper is not paid as mixed scrap.
Paid by bank transfer
Payment against the weights and grades, with a waste transfer note for the load.
We’re moving out of a unit on Wardley Industrial Estate. Will you take the old racking and mezzanine?
Yes, once it’s dismantled and safe to load. Pallet racking, shelving, mezzanine steelwork and old machine bases are steel scrap, and we can put a skip or roll-on roll-off container in your yard while the unit is cleared. Keep cable, copper and aluminium apart as they come out, because they’re graded separately from the steel. Machines must be drained of oil first.
We machine brass and stainless at a small works in Eccles. How should we store the swarf?
In separate lidded bins, one per metal, kept well away from the steel. Brass and stainless turnings are worth much more than mild steel swarf, but only while they stay clean and unmixed. Let them drain before they go in the bin, and keep coolant and grinding sludge out completely: oily sludge is hazardous waste with its own specialist route, so tell us about it first.
How do I get today’s price for my scrap?
Call 01942 906041 or send us a few photos through the quote form with a rough weight or volume. Scrap prices follow the metals markets and change from day to day, so we price on what you actually have at the time, by grade, rather than quoting a figure that could be out of date tomorrow.
How will we be paid? Can you pay cash?
By bank transfer. Paying cash for scrap metal has been illegal in England and Wales since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, so any dealer still offering cash is breaking the law. You get a record of what was weighed, the grade and the price, so the payment is easy to reconcile in your accounts.
Do you collect from site?
Yes. We arrange collections from business and trade sites, and can leave cages, bins, bulk bags or a roll-on roll-off skip on site so metals are kept apart as they come out. Tell us what you produce and how much, and we will suggest the right set-up and collection frequency.
