Scrap metal collection and buying in Manchester
Office refurbishments in the city centre and workshops in east Manchester both throw out metal with a market value. We buy it, collect it and pay by bank transfer.
- Licensed dealerA Wigan Council scrap metal site licence, on the public register.
- Paid by bank transferStraight into your account, with a weight and grade record for each load.
- Graded, not lumped inEach metal priced for what it is, not as the cheapest thing in the pile.
- Paperwork doneWaste transfer notes for every collection, so your records stay complete.
Much of Manchester’s scrap now comes out of buildings rather than factories. Deloitte’s 2026 Crane Survey found that refurbishment makes up most of the city’s office pipeline, and every floor stripped back to the slab releases cable, cable tray, galvanised ductwork, copper pipe and steel. All of that has a market price, and it should be weighed and paid for, not lost in a mixed skip.
Resilient Contracting holds a scrap metal dealer’s site licence from Wigan Council and buys from strip-out contractors, M&E firms, fabricators and facilities teams across Manchester. We agree where cages and skips go, collect from site and settle by bank transfer when every metal has been graded. City-centre loading bays are tight, so collections fit around your building’s rules.

Strip-outs in the centre, workshops out east
East Manchester once built locomotives for the world. Beyer, Peacock’s Gorton Foundry sent out its first engine in 1855 and stopped production in 1966, and Crossley’s engine works on Pottery Lane in Openshaw lasted until 2009. The metalwork is smaller now, in units on the Thames Industrial Estate in Ardwick, the Vaughan estate in West Gorton, Hammerstone Road and City Works on Welcomb Street, producing steel offcuts, stainless sheet and swarf.
North of the centre, Newton Heath was home to Mather & Platt’s Park Works and the factory that built the Avro Anson, and Wilsons Park on Monsall Road still holds dozens of small units. To the south, the Ringway Trading Estate by junction 5 of the M56 and Atlas Business Park in Wythenshawe serve the airport side of the city, where plant, aviation and building services firms all generate metal.

How it works
From a phone call to money in the bank
Say what the metal is and give us a rough weight or a skip size. A photo or two speeds it up. You will know how it will be priced before anything moves.
Call or send photos
What the metal is, how it is mixed, roughly how much and where it is. A few photos usually tell us most of it.
Collection arranged
A one-off pick-up, or cages, bins or a skip on site so it can be kept apart as it comes out.
Weighed and graded
Each metal is weighed and graded for what it is, so clean copper is not paid as mixed scrap.
Paid by bank transfer
Payment against the weights and grades, with a waste transfer note for the load.
We’re stripping out an office floor in the city centre. What metal should we keep apart?
More than most people expect. Cable goes in its own cage, armoured split from unarmoured if you can. Copper pipe and brass valves from the plant room go in a separate bin, galvanised ductwork and cable tray with the steel, and aluminium window frames, louvres and blinds on their own. Give us the floor area and access details and we’ll fit collections around the goods lift and loading bay.
Can you collect from a workshop in Ardwick or Gorton with no room for a skip?
Yes. A small unit is usually better served by bulk bags or a single cage for the higher-value metals, such as copper, brass and stainless, with the steel collected whenever a worthwhile load has built up. Send photos of a typical month’s scrap and we’ll suggest the set-up and how often to collect.
How do I get today’s price for my scrap?
Call 01942 906041 or send us a few photos through the quote form with a rough weight or volume. Scrap prices follow the metals markets and change from day to day, so we price on what you actually have at the time, by grade, rather than quoting a figure that could be out of date tomorrow.
How will we be paid? Can you pay cash?
By bank transfer. Paying cash for scrap metal has been illegal in England and Wales since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, so any dealer still offering cash is breaking the law. You get a record of what was weighed, the grade and the price, so the payment is easy to reconcile in your accounts.
Do you collect from site?
Yes. We arrange collections from business and trade sites, and can leave cages, bins, bulk bags or a roll-on roll-off skip on site so metals are kept apart as they come out. Tell us what you produce and how much, and we will suggest the right set-up and collection frequency.
